Challenges
Downer needed to install 6km of ducting for the installation of new ITS infrastructure including new LCS, VMSS, Camera, Loop Vehicle Detection and underlying communications/power infrastructure.
They decided to use Marais Laying NZ’s services to trench along SH1.
Trenching had to be performed at night with one traffic lane closure and the client wanted a narrow trench – 650 x 150mm.
The ground conditions were expected to be difficult, therefore we decided to use one of our rock saws.

Solution
Marais Laying NZ proposed using a rock saw named Tesmec TRS300 to increase productivity and reduce its footprint due to hard ground conditions.

Result
This project allowed the company to introduce a new range of solutions for the installation of ITS underground services in busy areas, while keeping the timeframe shorter and leaving a smaller footprint than previous existing techniques.
