Challenges

Marais Laying NZ was tasked with the installation of ducting and pits for new traffic signals, a project that required extensive night work to minimize disruption. Due to the presence of numerous existing underground services, hydro excavation was essential for ensuring safe and efficient operations.

Each shift concluded with backfilling and asphalt application, but our team also faced additional challenges, including areas of concrete and contaminated ground. These materials required careful disposal at a specialized facility to comply with environmental regulations.

Solution

To effectively address these challenges, Marais Laying NZ deployed a skilled team of four onsite. We utilized our hydro excavation machine in conjunction with an excavator equipped with a breaker to effectively penetrate the concrete.

Additionally, we stockpiled materials at our yard, including temporary seal, to securely close the site at the end of each shift. The contaminated hydro-excavated material was disposed of daily at a specialist facility, ensuring compliance with environmental standards. At the end of each week, our team removed all temporary seals and installed asphalt to achieve a high-quality finish.

Results

Marais Laying NZ consistently met and frequently exceeded daily production targets throughout the project. Our diligent approach included thorough investigations during each shift, which assisted our client in determining the optimal placement for the new services.
