Challenges
Marais Laying NZ faced significant challenges in managing traffic for a complex trenching project that involved a combination of grass berms and asphalt roads. The project required multiple road crossings, necessitating an effective stop-and-go traffic management system to ensure safety and minimize disruption. In addition to traffic management, Marais was tasked with the installation of multiple ducts followed by the hauling of power cables into these ducts.
Solution
To tackle these challenges, Marais Laying NZ employed a 3.5-ton excavator for the primary trenching work, utilizing hydro excavation techniques to safely navigate around existing underground services. This approach minimized the risk of damaging existing utilities while maintaining operational efficiency. Our team also utilized an asphalt truck to transport asphalt, ensuring it remained at the optimal temperature for application. To facilitate the installation of the power cables, we deployed a self-propelled hauling winch, enhancing our capability to handle heavy loads with precision.
Results
Marais Laying NZ achieved remarkable efficiency by installing 25 meters of ducting per day. Asphalt work was completed on a weekly basis, following the installation of all ducts, to ensure a seamless transition from ducting to road restoration. After the duct installation, our team successfully opened joint holes, installed transformer plinths, and efficiently hauled the power cables. This meticulous execution not only met the project timelines but also ensured safety and operational integrity throughout the process.
