Scope of work

Ventia needed to install 5km of new fibre cable in Arthur’s Pass, one of the coldest places in Canterbury during the winter season (sub-zero temperatures).

Solution

Marais Laying NZ proposed using its experienced team with the help of our specialised machine Sidecut, 2.7 excavator, rock breakers and Class 1 Trucks to trench and install the new cables.

Marais has designed and provided its own traffic management for the duration of the project.

Result
Marais Laying NZ has been installing 100m of new trench and 300m of hauling daily.

Key facts
  • Trench: 100 meters in carriageway, install 1*100mmp

  • Hauling: 700 metres in carriageway without stopping traffic on SH73

  • Asphalt reinstatement: 150m2

  • Work on the main state highway connecting Canterbury and the West Coast.
