Challenges
Communication on site is very limited and all materials have to come from Te Anau or Invercargill.
In addition to this, the weather in this area is some of New Zealand's worst both in terms of rainfall and temperatures.

Solutions
Marais Laying NZ proposed using its experienced team from other long backbone projects.
The project has been divided into 2 sections (north and south) to make it faster to build.
Our team focused on the mole plough followed by trenching and drilling around bridges and obstacles.
​
Result
Marais Laying NZ has been installing up to 1200m of new duct per day, finishing the project ahead of schedule.
