FIBRE INSTALLATION
– CHRISTCHURCH AIRPORT
Client: Fulton Hogan

Location: Christchurch Airport

Service: Fibre Installation

Date started: June 2018
Date completed: August 2018

Challenges
Fulton Hogan chose Marais Laying NZ to install 20km of fibre around Christchurch airport. The footprint of this project covered the full airport campus, getting close to the multiple runways and taxiways and required careful planning to ensure the airport could still function in the meantime.
Trenching had to be carried out while working around critical existing services.

Solution
We used one of our TRS300 trenchers to trench and lay the duct in one pass. This technology helped us to reduce the footprint on the grass around the runways while achieving a production of 800m per day.
Our crew worked alongside Fulton Hogan on all the services location to ensure the existing network was not damaged.

Result
This was our first time working inside an airport, and we really improved our skills in terms of planning and trenching, while leaving a minimal footprint.
